The First Week. - Understanding the 1st. week and the 1st. 100 days.

INTRODUCTION:
Greetings. The inauguration is over, and it's time to get down to business. Once a new president is elected, the president-elect enters the transition phase. Much happens during this phase. They choose cabinet members and other leaders who will be part of their staff. Numerous meetings and plans are made during this time. Additionally, many executive orders are prepared for the President to sign on their first days in office. The orders define and are the framework for their next four years in office.
The inauguration of a new president is a momentous occasion. It is surrounded by ceremony, anticipation, and a heavy sense of responsibility. While the transition into the role begins long before the inaugural events, the first day in office is pivotal. It sets the tone for the new administration's priorities and direction. Here's an in-depth look at what a new president typically does on their first day in office.
President Trump signed numerous executive orders during his first week as President. Most were signed to fulfill his mandate to the American people. Some will be popular, and others may not. Every President has an agenda, and it is a large one. People have opinions; sometimes, like the planets, they are not always aligned. However, most executive orders implement actions that will be further explored throughout the President's presidency.
The most crucial point to remember is that we may see the results of some executive orders immediately, and others we will see take shape over time. This is because some things are more intensive than others. For example, President Trump has signed executive orders to reverse the New Green Deal and start increasing our domestic oil production. "Drill, baby, drill." We cannot expect to see the price at the pump immediately drop the following day. It will take time for the effects of this order to trickle down to the gas pumps. However, it will. As citizens, our job now is to be patient and let these changes begin to take effect. Rome was not built in one day, and our problems will not be solved in one day. Let the dust settle, let the administration work, and let the process of rebuilding our nation and economy begin.
Much controversy surrounds the Biden pardons and even some of Trump's pardons. I have a business blog post being posted next week, and the following week, February 10th., my blog post will be dedicated to discussing pardons.
THE FIRST DAY:
The first day usually begins with the inauguration ceremony, where the President takes the oath of office on the steps of the Capitol. This is one of the most critical moments for any incoming president, as it marks their official transition into leadership. During this ceremony, attendees include members of Congress, the outgoing President, distinguished guests, and citizens who gather to witness this historical moment.
Following the oath, the new President typically delivers an inaugural address. This speech serves multiple purposes: it outlines the President's vision and priorities, acknowledges the country's challenges, and aims to unify the nation. This address is crucial as it can provide insight into the administration's immediate focus and goals for the future.

After the ceremony, the President heads to the Oval Office, where immediate workflows are established. Here are some key tasks they might undertake:
Many newly inaugurated presidents use their first day to sign executive orders to initiate their policy agenda swiftly. These orders can cover various issues, such as environmental regulations, healthcare policies, immigration reform, or rolling back decisions made by the previous administration. These actions can signal a quick departure from earlier policies and highlight the new administration's priorities. Remember that these are not one or two orders; they can be many. As we all saw with President Trump, there were.
The new President will likely convene a meeting with their closest advisors and cabinet members—officials who will help execute the administration's agenda. Discussing immediate challenges and priorities forms a critical part of the transition process. This meeting may include discussing existing bills in Congress and strategies to work with lawmakers.
Establishing a collaborative relationship with Congress is crucial for any president. The first day may include calls or meetings with congressional leaders to discuss priorities, gain support for future initiatives, and express a commitment to bipartisanship where possible.
Engaging with the public is vital to the presidency in today's digital age. New presidents often use social media platforms to communicate directly with citizens, fostering a sense of transparency and inclusion. This may involve issuing statements, answering questions, or updating significant initiatives and policies.
In addition to immediate actions, a new president's first day may involve strategizing long-term goals. This could mean meeting with the Chief of Staff to outline the administration's first hundred days and setting up projects to fulfill campaign promises. The first day is often a time for laying the groundwork for operational effectiveness.
While many cabinet positions may have been nominated before the inauguration, discussions around staffing and potential appointments in various agencies often occur on the first day. A new president needs to surround themselves with trustworthy and competent individuals who align with their vision for governance.
The new President must address the media on the first day, asking questions to clarify their stance on key issues and responding to immediate concerns. Media interactions serve as a platform for messaging and reinforce the public's understanding of the new administration's goals.
In addition to their official duties, new presidents often participate in traditional ceremonies or public events, such as a visit to a historical site, a meeting with a local community or charity organization, or an inaugural parade. These activities are designed to connect with the public and promote goodwill.
Does this sound like a busy first day? You bet it is. The first day of a new presidency is a whirlwind of activity, filled with ceremonial significance, strategic planning, and relationship-building. While it may only be 24 hours, the decisions and the actions taken can resonate throughout their entire term. By prioritizing critical issues, establishing a vision, and engaging with both Congress and the public, new presidents lay the groundwork for their administration's legacy. The energy of the first day can inspire confidence and optimism for what lies ahead, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the country's history.
As always, some people will be happy with some of these decisions, and some will not be satisfied. The days following the first day often extend the first day, including some damage control. Never forget: You can keep some people happy sometimes, but not all the people all the time.
THE FIRST 100 DAYS:
Everyone hears about the first day or the first week. I hope my explanation above helped you to understand it better. Now comes the first 100 days. Many do not understand the significance of this. Let's try to help you to understand it.
Here is a link for additional information: AKIN - The First 100 Days.
The first 100 days of a presidency are critical periods that set the tone for a leader's administration. Historically viewed as a benchmark of effectiveness and ambition, this timeframe allows newly elected presidents to enact policies, establish priorities, and communicate their vision to the American public. The significance of these early days is encapsulated in Franklin D. Roosevelt's ambitious "First 100 Days" during the Great Depression, during which he passed numerous legislative measures to revitalize the American economy.
The "first 100 days" concept began with Roosevelt, who took office in 1933. Faced with the Great Depression, Roosevelt's swift action in implementing the New Deal marked a shift in the relationship between the federal government and the economy. Since then, this initial phase of a presidency has become an essential gauge for assessing a leader's effectiveness, ambition, and administration direction.
Over subsequent decades, each President has approached this critical window with varying strategies and outcomes. From Kennedy's views on Cold War policies to Obama's fiscal stimulus efforts in response to the 2008 financial crisis, the first 100 days remain filled with ambition and urgency.
At the onset of a presidency, effective leaders work to identify and communicate their key priorities quickly. This includes significant economic, foreign policy, health care, and social justice issues. Crafting a clear agenda allows presidents to focus their efforts and rally support from Congress and the public.
Many presidents use their first 100 days to pass significant legislation. This could involve proposing and advocating for new laws or advancing those from the previous administration. The success of these initiatives often depends on the political climate and composition of Congress.
The appointment of key cabinet members and advisors is essential during this stage. These selections reflect the President's priorities and signal their ideological leanings. Swift and strategic appointments can facilitate the implementation of policies and influence the administration's overall effectiveness. In addition to the executive orders a President may sign on day one, Presidents often resort to additional executive orders and memoranda to bypass legislative gridlock and enact immediate changes. Such actions may address pressing concerns but can also generate controversy and backlash from opposing parties.
A strong communication strategy is vital for a new president to convey their vision to the people effectively. Presidents can engage with the public, build consensus, and address their administration's challenges using media appearances, press conferences, and social media. Public approval ratings during this time significantly influence the ability to accomplish legislative goals in the long run.
A president's success in their first 100 days is often analyzed through various metrics, including legislative achievements, public approval ratings, and challenges faced. For instance, the ability to pass significant legislation or garner cross-party support often results in positive assessments of a presidency. At the same time, difficulties may lead to low approval ratings and skepticism about future initiatives.
Some examples might be:
Barack Obama (2009) faced an economic crisis. Obama prioritized the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which aimed to stimulate economic growth through extensive fiscal measures. His first three months saw high approval ratings, though political polarization emerged as he faced opposition to his ambitious reforms.
Donald Trump (2017). Trump's early days were marked by executive orders to fulfill campaign promises, including immigration restrictions and withdrawal from trade agreements. However, his controversial approach led to a divided public response and significant pushback from civil society and political opponents.
Joe Biden (2021. With the ongoing pandemic, Biden focused on passing the American Rescue Plan, which included substantial economic relief measures. Early vaccination efforts also defined his first few months in office, fostering a sense of urgency and determination to restore normalcy.
The first 100 days of a presidency undoubtedly lay the groundwork for the administration's success and legacy. By establishing priorities, engaging with the public, and navigating legislative challenges, newly elected presidents can set the path for their term(s) in office. While history provides valuable lessons, each President's unique context and approach ensure that the initial days of their administration remain a pivotal period full of possibilities and potential pitfalls. As scholars, news media, and the public analyze these early days, the outcomes often follow throughout the President's time in office, influencing domestic and international policy for years to come.
NOW THE POLITICS BEGIN:
The days following the first day are just as hectic. As the celebrations fade into the background, the days following a presidential inauguration mark a critical juncture in American politics. This period serves as a test for the new administration, offering insight into how it will handle the art of governance, unite a divided nation, and address the present challenges.
Shortly after taking office, the President typically turns their attention to appointing cabinet members and key advisors. This often involves balancing expertise, political loyalty, and representation to reflect the diverse fabric of the nation. The selection of cabinet members can set the tone for the administration, signaling priorities like climate change, healthcare reform, foreign policy, and many others. Remember that the primary purpose of executive orders is so the President can quickly implement their agenda.
These tools allow for rapid policy changes without the drawn-out legislative process. For instance, a president might address urgent issues like immigration, environmental regulations, or public health crises within days of taking office. The immediate legislative agenda may also take shape, with the administration signaling key issues it intends to prioritize in Congress. A robust communications strategy is essential during this period. The new administration will aim to directly engage the public through press briefings, social media, and public appearances, reinforcing their vision and plans. This includes addressing the nation from the Oval Office, where the President can convey their commitment to transparency and openness.
The political stage in the U.S. can be, and is, remarkably fractured, and the newly inaugurated President faces the daunting task of uniting diverse factions. In the days after an inauguration, special attention is given to the following aspects:
Successful presidencies often hinge on the ability to foster bipartisan cooperation. In the wake of significant political division, outreach to opposition party leaders and a willingness to engage in dialogue are paramount. This may involve personal phone calls or public events designed to emphasize common goals, such as economic recovery or national security. To solidify support, the new administration may organize town hall meetings or rallies to provide a platform for citizens to express their concerns and aspirations. These interactions can help build policy momentum and reinforce the administration's commitment to listening to the electorate.
In the days after the inauguration, immediate efforts are often made to confront pressing national issues that resonate with the public. These could include addressing a public health crisis, economic challenges, or civil rights issues. The administration's ability to take decisive action can bolster public support or stoke further dissent.
THE ROLE OF THE MEDIA:
We all know what the media should do: report fairly, equally, and without bias. However, the past has shown us this is often not true. As a reporting network, the media plays a crucial role in shaping the public perception of a new administration in the days following an inauguration. Coverage can significantly impact an administration's course.
Media narratives can either bolster or hinder an administration's agenda. Favorable coverage can amplify successes and mitigate criticism, while negative press can stall initiatives and lead to increased scrutiny. The administration's ability to manage its relationship with the media is key to shaping its public image. With the digital age in full swing, the days after the inauguration often see an increase in fact-checking and investigative journalism. The media plays a vital role in holding the new administration accountable, scrutinizing statements, policy implications, and potential conflicts of interest when approached fairly.
GLOBAL INTERESTS:

In the days following an inauguration, the global stage watches closely, eager to gauge how the new President will reshape foreign relations. International leaders analyze the new administration's approach to diplomacy, often assessing early decisions on treaties, global alliances, and strategic communications. How a president engages with allies and adversaries sets essential precedents for international relations and avoids a global meltdown, especially now with two wars in place and the unknown with China on the horizon.
Investors respond to the inauguration with a keen eye on how the new administration's policies may affect economic stability. Decisions surrounding tariffs, trade agreements, and international regulations can send shockwaves through financial markets, illustrating the interconnectedness of domestic policy and global economics.
The days after the inauguration can be pivotal for shaping the long-term legacy of a presidency. Fostering cooperation early on can yield positive results down the line. Suppose a new administration can successfully work with Congress during its initial days. In that case, it may pave the way for legislative victories to enhance the President's standing and effectiveness throughout their term.
Public trust is often built during the first weeks of a new administration. A commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsiveness can resonate with the electorate. How a president navigates challenges and communicates progress can influence public perception and electoral success in subsequent elections.
IN CLOSING:
The days after the inauguration and the first 100 days represent a unique and profoundly consequential phase of American governance. The convergence of policies, public sentiment, international reactions, and media scrutiny creates a complex environment that new administrations must navigate. While some may lay the groundwork for transformative change, others may get lost in controversy or political gridlock.
These early days set the tone for the administration's direction and ability to unite a polarized nation. In today's political climate, this task remains even more challenging. As history has shown, the actions taken in this brief yet critical period can echo throughout a presidency, influencing the leader's legacy, reputation, and effectiveness in the years to come.
President Trump has a difficult task and many obstacles to overcome. He learned some hard lessons from his first term. He will take what he has learned forward in his present term. He has a slight luxury of having a Republican majority in the House and the Senate for two years. After that, we will see what the American people decide. Every leader at all levels has their agenda as well. This is where the political games begin and end. Nothing is guaranteed. However, every elected official MUST remember the promises they ran under and what the mandate of the people is if they want to be re-elected.
Politics is often played on a dirty playing field. An effective President must navigate that field successfully. I believe President Trump can do this. The voters wanted what he promised during his campaign. Therefore, they voted for him. Those who go against the people's will must make their choices if they wish to continue serving in the political arena because the people hold the power to change. Now, we will see what happens moving forward. This post was longer than most but covered a great deal of material. I hope many have a better understanding of this material and its processes.
