INTRODUCTION:

Greetings. I wrote a blog about a year ago titled "The Trump Phenomena." Since then, I have received many emails requesting I elaborate more on the topic. When a reader subscribes to my blog, the only information collected is an email address and a name. I have no idea what political affiliation they have or where they live. I am also proud to say we NEVER sell or share our email list. Protecting your information is paramount. Therefore, these emails could come from Trump supporters or non-Trump supporters. Frankly, that information doesn't matter when dealing with facts.

I've often stated that although I have written about President Trump and politics in general, I have never met Donald Trump, seen him live, or spoken with him. Therefore, I do not know him. Yes, I believe in his policies and support him; however, that does not change the facts. Facts should never be confused with opinions. This post is based on hours of research, watching him speak, my evaluations of his accomplishments, and forming my opinion. Everyone has the right to their views as well. Therefore, you may or may not agree with some of this post, but you cannot deny the facts, which are all verifiable.

Donald Trump has always had a commanding presence when he enters a room. Some people possess that characteristic. You might ask, why is that? We may not know an individual, but their presence is immediately apparent when they enter a room. Let's look at those traits for a moment.

WHAT MAKES A PERSON HAVE A COMMANDING PRESENCE?:

This section can apply to any individual. For example, when I was a career firefighter, the Chief of my department, William Johnson, was the type of man with a commanding presence. Whenever he walked into a room, his presence immediately gained him respect. When he spoke, people listened. We all know people like this.

A person's presence in a room can profoundly influence social interactions, professional engagements, and various contexts. While some individuals seem to radiate charisma and authority as soon as they enter the door, others may feel less impactful despite having equal skills or knowledge. So, what exactly constitutes a commanding presence?

At the core of a commanding presence lies confidence. We have all been taught to be confident individuals by having confidence in ourselves. For many, this is easier said than done. This trait is often perceived through body language, tone of voice, and overall demeanor. Confident individuals tend to maintain eye contact. Engaging others with steady eye contact signals confidence and assertiveness, while avoiding eye contact may imply insecurity or lack of interest. For some, through genetics, this comes easy; for others, it requires work, training, and discipline.

Good posture can instantly enhance someone's presence. An upright posture, with shoulders back and arms relaxed, communicates assurance and invites others to engage. Confident people navigate their environment without hesitation. They occupy space comfortably without over-concealing or overly expanding, signaling a sense of belonging and authority.

People with a commanding presence are often perceived as genuine. Authenticity draws others in, as people are naturally drawn to those who seem authentic and display confidence in themselves. When individuals act in alignment with their values, it fosters trust and respect from others. Upholding integrity in actions and words solidifies a person's presence. When people know they can rely on someone, they are more likely to gravitate towards them.

A commanding presence is often combined with exceptional communication capabilities. These individuals convey their thoughts clearly and with purpose. People naturally gain attention and respect when they can express their ideas well.

Knowing when to pause creates emphasis, allows for reflection, and lets ideas sink in. This enhances the impact of their message. Demonstrating attentiveness signals respect. Active listeners engage through nodding, paraphrasing, and asking thoughtful questions, which fosters connection.

Energy levels can significantly affect how others perceive a person's presence. Those who portray positive energy often draw others in. A genuine smile can be magnetic, making others feel comfortable and valued. A person who speaks passionately about their interests or expertise captivates the audience or people around them. Enthusiasm is infectious and often encourages others to engage.

Emotionally intelligent individuals demonstrate an understanding of their own emotions and the emotions of others. This quality contributes to a commanding presence in several ways. Relating to others' feelings creates a bond that people find reassuring. Individuals with high emotional intelligence can adapt their approach depending on the emotional atmosphere of the room. The ability to remain calm under pressure or in challenging situations portrays strength and steadiness, inspiring confidence in others.

Here is where it counts. First impressions matter, and appearance can significantly influence perceived presence. While physical appearance is not everything, it does play a role in how someone is initially perceived. Dressing appropriately and wearing attire that suits the occasion—while maintaining personal style—helps to project confidence and seriousness.

Self-grooming communicates self-respect and professionalism, further reinforcing a commanding presence.

An individual who is present and fully engaged in the moment commands attention effortlessly. Awareness of one's surroundings and the ongoing social dynamics allows for more effective interaction. Mindful individuals respond rather than react, reflecting a composed presence. Putting away distractions such as phones or side conversations shows respect for those present and indicates genuine interest.

A commanding presence is not merely an inherent trait; it can be developed and refined. By cultivating confidence, authenticity, effective communication skills, energy, emotional intelligence, a polished appearance, and presence of mind, individuals can enhance their ability to captivate and influence those around them.

Commanding a room in social gatherings, professional environments, or one-on-one conversations can open doors to opportunities, deepen connections, and inspire others. It all begins with consciously embodying these qualities and embracing their potential. As one works toward developing a commanding presence, the journey can foster personal growth and self-awareness.

For some, this comes easily since this may be their inherent personality. For others, they have to work at it until it becomes second nature. Those in the public eye may have already established their reputation, and much of this becomes natural. Many feel this confidence, and to some degree arrogance, when Donald Trump enters a room. His mannerisms and presence command respect. However, this is not limited to Donald Trump; many men and women in the present and throughout history have had a commanding presence. They do not have to be politicians; they can be anyone. A friend, family member, religious figure, or someone in your community. Someone who instills trust in others.

WHAT MAKES DONALD TRUMP WHO HE IS?:

Donald John Trump, born on June 14, 1946, in Queens, New York City, is an individual whose life and career have been marked by abundant personal attributes, familial influences, education, and unique experiences. As the 45th and now 47th President of the United States, businessman, media personality, and polarizing public figure, understanding the essence of Donald Trump requires a look at the multifaceted aspects that have shaped his identity.

Donald Trump's upbringing in a wealthy family significantly influenced his worldview. His father, Fred Trump, was a successful real estate developer who instilled in his son the values of ambition and sound business decisions from a young age. Growing up in a privileged environment, Trump was surrounded by wealth and success, which set a foundation for his future pursuits.

His family's strict values and competitive nature played a crucial role in shaping his personality. Trump has often spoken about the high expectations set by his parents, especially his father, who encouraged a strong work ethic and resilience. Such traits became cornerstones of his character and have often come to the forefront in his business dealings and political career.

Trump attended Fordham University before transferring to the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a degree in economics. This rigorous academic background equipped him with the knowledge to navigate the complex real estate and business world.

TRUMP'S RISE TO FAME:

Trump's entry into the entertainment industry began in the 1980s, notably with the success of his book "The Art of the Deal," which cemented his image as a shrewd businessman. His larger-than-life personality was further amplified through various media appearances, culminating in the reality television show "The Apprentice." This show showcased his business judgement and flair for dramatic presentation, endearing him to millions of viewers.

He leveraged this fame to establish himself as a brand, promoting everything from luxury real estate to personal care products while maintaining a controversial yet magnetizing persona that resonated with many Americans.

Not many with this type of ambition stop there. Neither did Donald Trump. Trump's leap into politics was somewhat unexpected, yet it capitalized on his established brand. Announcing his candidacy in 2015, he quickly positioned himself as an outsider willing to challenge the status quo. Utilizing a combination of populist rhetoric, social media, and a knack for generating headlines, he galvanized a substantial base of supporters. Donald Trump's confidence and aligning himself with the concerns of the American people, along with his direct approach speaking style, only increased his fame at a time when people wanted a change.

His "America First" message and promises to drain the swamp of Washington bureaucracy struck a chord with many who felt marginalized by traditional political elites. Trump's ability to tap into the frustrations of ordinary Americans, coupled with his direct, often confrontational style, set him apart from conventional politicians.

Several key personality traits have defined Trump's leadership style and public persona:

Charisma: Trump's confidence, often bordering on arrogance, has allowed him to command attention and rally support. His assertiveness helps him project strength, which many of his supporters admire.

Emotional Appeal: Trump often employs emotionally charged language, creating a deep connection with his base. His ability to evoke feelings through humor, anger, or nostalgia has solidified his influence in American politics.

Controversial and Combative: Trump's confrontational approach, especially towards media critics and political opponents, has been a hallmark of his brand. While polarizing, this combative style resonates with supporters who appreciate his willingness to confront perceived injustices head-on.

Imperfect but Human: Trump's relatability often stems from his imperfection; he presents himself as a flawed yet genuine individual. Many Americans see him as unfiltered and authentic, breaking away from the carefully curated images of traditional politicians.

IN CLOSING:

OPINION: Donald Trump is a complex figure whose identity has been shaped by many factors, including his upbringing, education, career, and personality traits. He embodies a unique intersection of business savvy, media manipulation, and populist appeal, all of which combine to position him as a transformative figure in American politics. His legacy, marked by dedicated supporters and adamant critics alike, will continue to influence future generations and shape the political landscape for years to come. His determination and skill as a negotiator add to what makes Donald Trump the man he is and one that leaders of other nations fear. He is well known for doing precisely what he says he will do.

Society is made up of two-dimensional and three-dimensional thinkers. Two-dimensional thinking focuses on surface-level understanding, while three-dimensional thinking involves a more holistic approach to problem-solving, encompassing various perspectives and complexities. Most people are two-dimensional thinkers. I believe Donald Trump is a three-dimensional thinker. Donald Trump is a man who knows what tools he has at his disposal and how to leverage them and use them effectively to get what he wants and forge the future. Understanding what makes Trump who he is requires acknowledging his life experiences and aspirations and his indelible mark on the nation.

During his first presidency, Trump was a rookie in Washington. He had to learn the players and how political games are played. Now, in his second presidency, with that knowledge, he knows better who to surround himself with to achieve his goals. As with everything, there will be some tweaking and fine-tuning along the way, and not all things will be accomplished overnight. The wheels of politics often turn slower than we would like them to. We live in a different political environment than we did decades ago. However, looking at the larger picture and beyond two-dimensional thinking, I feel confident that Donald Trump will achieve his goals, that life will be better for the American people, and that, once again, our global presence will be firmly established, not only because I believe in his policies, but because President Donald Trump does not accept failure.
